In Memoriam: The Most Rev. Frank Tracy Griswold

The Most. Rev. Frank Tracy Griswold III, 25th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, died on March 5 in Philadelphia at the age of 85. Episcopal News Service has published an obituary of Bishop Griswold, who was elected presiding bishop in 1997 and served until 2006. That year, the Diocese of Southern Ohio hosted his final General Convention in office in Columbus.

“News of Bishop Frank Griswold’s death leaves me enormously sad—but I am also deeply grateful for his life and witness,” Bishop Wayne Smith said. “He helped shape the liturgical life of our Church, a fact perhaps not obvious to everyone. In his years as Presiding Bishop he steadied our Church through a difficult season, leadership made possible by a rich spiritual life grounded in the disciplines of the catholic tradition. I remember him as unfailingly kind and thoughtful. God grant him rest and peace, in the sure and certain hope of resurrection to eternal life.”
