From Bishop Smith: Prayers for the Rev. Canon Scott Gunn

From Bishop Smith: Prayers for the Rev. Canon Scott Gunn 300 300 Episcopalians in Connection

Dear Friends in Christ:

Grace to you, and peace, in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior, who was, and is, and is to come.

The Rev. Canon Scott Gunn

I write to you with difficult news. The Rev. Canon Scott Gunn, who serves as president of the diocese’s Standing Committee, executive director of Forward Movement, and priest associate at Christ Church, Glendale, has had a serious medical incident while on vacation in Singapore. He is now hospitalized there, and late last night, his wife, the Rev. Sherilyn Pearce, arrived to be with him.

This morning, Sherilyn reports that Scott is resting comfortably and is receiving world-class medical care. His current condition is critical but improving, and while hopeful, doctors report that he has a long road ahead. The medical and pastoral team, along with Sherilyn, are encouraged. She is particularly grateful for the care and support of the Anglican Church in Singapore, which has made a significant difference both for her and for Scott.

In this difficult and unexpected time, I bid your prayers for Scott and Sherilyn and for all who love and care for them. Prayer is the best possible way we can support them at this time. Although I know that many of you will want to be in touch directly, Sherilyn has asked that people refrain from calling or texting so their phones can be kept free for attending to the matters at hand.

I will communicate with you again when we have more news to share from Sherilyn. Until then, may God comfort and sustain us all.

O God of heavenly powers, by the might of your command you drive away from our bodies all sickness and all infirmity: Be present in your goodness with your servant Scott, that his weakness may be banished and his strength restored; and that, his health being renewed, he may bless your holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
