At 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, the Choir of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church will lead a service of Choral Evensong. The service will be followed by a short concert and a reception.
Saint Mark’s Choir will be in residence at Wells Cathedral in England from July 4 – 10. Wells Cathedral was built between the years 1176 and 1450 and is the cathedral for the Diocese of Bath and Wells in southeast England.
While in residence the choir will sing seven different services, six choral evensongs and the Sunday morning Eucharist on July 10.
The June 26 Choral Evensong and concert will feature some of the pieces that the choir will sing while in Wells.
Evensong is a service of sung Evening Prayer that began during the English Reformation of the 1500’s. It combines several even older evening services that had been prayed every day in monasteries through the Middle Ages. The service is contemplative. It includes a combination of spoken and sung prayers, readings from scripture, hymns and anthems.
Admission is free.
Donations will be gratefully received in support of the Choir’s upcoming residency trip to Wells Cathedral, England.
Saint Mark’s is located at 2151 Dorset Road, 5 blocks north of Lane Avenue, between Redding & Tremont Roads. Parking is available in the Tremont Shopping Center. Please join us for this beautiful and inspiring service, and be sure to invite some friends!
